What You Need to Lead a Nonprofit Today
Nonprofit leaders have a tough job.
Not only must they be experts in fundraising and operations, they must be able to adapt to the changing executive role and shifting worker expectations. Managing highly diverse teams and inter-generational conflict requires sophisticated interpersonal skills.
Today’s workers demand that their leaders be transparent, flexible and compassionate. Leaders must exhibit the essential emotional intelligence (EQ) qualities and competencies of self-awareness, active listening, empathy and emotional self-control.
Leaders must also take care of themselves and their teams to avoid the devastating impacts of workplace burnout. Too often, serious medical and mental health problems cause leaders and staff to quit, straining both organizations’ mission and bottom line.
This interactive two-part course focuses on the essential EQ skills of nonprofit leadership and ways to recognize and avoid burnout for both leaders & their staff. We’ll use case studies, hands-on exercises, small group discussions and reflective practices.
